In an interview with Rudaw on Wednesday, Pedro Comissario Afonso, Mozambique’s permanent ambassador to the United Nations and President of the Security Council (UNSC) for the month of May, discussed the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict and the possibility of implementing a ceasefire, the Kurdish nation’s struggle towards independence and self-determination, and other issues on the UNSC’s upcoming agenda.
“Independence, self-determination, sovereignty are granted, not by other states, not by any entity even the United Nations. Those requirements are earned by each people who fight for it… Throughout the history, some countries were luckier, more lucky, in obtaining independence than others” said Afonso.
