DONETSK OBLAST, Ukraine - A military hospital in an area of Donetsk Oblast under the control of the Ukrainian army was toured by Rudaw on Monday. It serves as a spot for treating wounded soldiers before being referred to safer zones of the central and western parts of the country.

Ukraine has launched a major counteroffensive to liberate Bakhmut from Russian forces, an attack that is progressing slowly. The slow advance is costing lives with at least five to ten wounded Ukrainian soldiers being rushed to and treated at the secret hospital that Rudaw is not allowed to disclose the location of due to the sensitivity of the matter.

Most of the wounded soldiers have sustained shrapnel and bullet injuries.

Volodymyr Insko, who joined the ranks of the Ukrainian army, was injured earlier this week on the frontlines and has visited the same health center to get treated.

"It was a heavy bombing. A piece of shrapnel at first hit a number of trees, and then shrapnels hit my hand, injuring me," Insko recalled.

"I immediately took shelter in a trench that we had dug to protect ourselves. From there I was looking around to see whether or not the Russian troops were advancing," he detailed.

A large number of similar health centers have been set up close to the frontlines to provide first aid treatment to the wounded soldiers of the Ukrainian army.

Half of the Donetsk region is under the control of the Russian forces.
