ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani arrived in Baghdad on Saturday afternoon for discussions with federal authorities on several pressing issues, primarily Erbil’s financial woes and the resumption of oil exports.

President Barzani aims to hold “discussions with Iraqi leaders and officials regarding the issues between Erbil and Baghdad, the political landscape in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as various other pressing topics,” his office said in a statement.

He will meet with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani. He will also attend a meeting of members of the Shiite-led State Administration Coalition that backs the current government, according to the statement.

Dilshad Shahab, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region Presidency, told Rudaw on Thursday that the discussions will primarily focus on key issues such as the Region's allocation in the federal budget, the disbursement of salaries for Kurdistan Regional Government employees, and the resumption of Kurdish oil exports that were suspended a year ago.

President Barzani will touch on "broken promises" of the coalition, according to Shahab.

Salim al-Jabouri, a Sunni politician and former speaker of the Iraqi parliament, emphasized the significance of the Kurdish leader's visit, portraying him as a president with the capability to address these important issues.

"Nechirvan Barzani is distinguished by his rationality and wisdom, and some of the issues that occurred during the previous period, specifically those related to employees’ salaries, the oil and gas law, and the relationship between the centre [federal government] and the Region,” Jabouri told journalists on Friday, adding that these issues require transparency in order to be resolved.

“Indeed, many intractable issues will be resolved with his arrival,” he said.
