President Barzani welcomes Japan’s new ambassador to Iraq

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Tuesday welcomed the new Japanese ambassador to Iraq Akira Endo, where they discussed strengthening collaboration across various sectors.

A statement from the Kurdistan Region’s Presidency quoted President Barzani as emphasizing the Region's “commitment to strengthening relations and collaboration with Japan across various sectors,” while wishing the new ambassador “a successful tenure.”

For his part, the Japanese ambassador “expressed his enthusiasm for starting his role and visiting the Kurdistan Region.” Endo highlighted Japan's significant interest in “fostering strong ties with both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, expressing optimism about advancing their relationship during his time in office,” it added.

The two officials additionally discussed the recent parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region and the establishment of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s tenth cabinet, as well as the evolving events in the region.
