ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi in Doha on Tuesday to discuss energy relations and investment opportunities. The meeting is part of Barzani’s ongoing visit to the peninsula state to hold talks with senior Qatari officials.

In a statement he posted on X, Barzani said he discussed with al-Kaabi “strengthening our energy relations and opportunities for investment in the sector.”

Barzani arrived in Doha on Monday, where he was received by Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

Commenting on the meeting, the Kurdistan Region premier said, “We are aligned on building on the strong friendship between our peoples and expanding our ties across sectors. We also exchanged views on developments in Iraq and the region.”

Doha’s foreign ministry on Monday reported that Barzani and the Qatari premier “reviewed the relations of cooperation and ways to support and develop them, in addition to discussing several topics of mutual interest.”

The ministry quoted the Qatari prime minister as highlighting Doha’s “keenness to strengthen the horizons of cooperation” with Erbil “in various fields and in a way that achieves common interests.”

On Monday as well, Barzani held talks with Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al Thani, the head of Qatar’s Central Bank and Investment Authority.

The two officials discussed “investment opportunities in KRG priority sectors such as banking, energy, infrastructure, and others,” according to a statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

The two sides agreed that the Kurdistan Region offers a favorable investment environment and has seen significant growth in recent years, the statement added.
