ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Heevie health NGO in Kurdistan Region’s Duhok province has been providing life-saving treatment to children with congenital heart disease, support to refugees with mobility disabilities, and training for healthcare staff in the Region, thanks to funding from President Nechirvan Barzani.
Heevie, which means “hope” in Kurdish, supports “the internal healthcare system, training for healthcare staff, providing specialized treatment, and providing treatment for victims, especially refugees through many projects that are supported and implemented in coordination with the Kurdistan Region’s President Mr. Nechirvan Barzani’s office as well as with coordination of internal and international partners of the organization,” Mohammed Mahmood, a representative of Heevie told Rudaw on Tuesday.
Heevie has performed surgeries on 843 children with congenital heart disease in Duhok, carried out by Italian doctors.
Over 227,000 children benefited from its treatment projects last year, according to the organization. It has also sent 547 patients to Italy for treatment with the support of President Barzani.
Heevie has been active for five years and helps victims like refugees with treatment for paralysis and other mobility disabilities as well. The organization has provided natural treatment to 20,807 people with disabilities during this period.
Furthermore, Heevie has trained several healthcare workers through experts to teach skills and experiences that can be used in the Kurdistan Region.
