Three dead in Halabja traffic accident

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Three people died and several others were injured in a collision between a taxi and a tractor in Halabja on Sunday.

The accident occurred on the Sirwan-Halabja road.

An investigation has been launched into the incident. The dead were aged between 51 to 80, Akam Qurbaddin, spokesperson for Halabja traffic police, told Rudaw’s Sazgar Salih.

The drivers of the taxi and tractor and a passenger were injured in the traffic accident. They were transferred to a hospital.

Car accidents are common in the Kurdistan Region, exacerbated by poor-quality roads and lax safety measures enforcement.

Over 3,700 traffic accidents occurred across the Kurdistan Region in 2022, killing at least 445 people and injuring 7,250 others, according to the most recent data from the general traffic police directorate.
