ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A number of shooters on Friday opened fire on people inside a concert hall in northern Moscow, killing 40 people and injuring at least 100 others, according to a Rudaw reporter on the ground.

Rudaw’s Kamiz Shadadi reported from near the targeted hall that many people are also stuck in the building.

Dead bodies of 40 people have been taken out from the concert hall. More than 100 others have been injured in the incident, Shadadi said.

“Many people are stuck inside the hall,” he noted, adding that the targeted building also includes many other activity halls in addition to the concert hall.

He said the number of assaults remains unknown.

The Islamic State (ISIS) said in a statement on its propaganda channel on Telegram that its members carried out the attack.

The concert was held by the rock band Picnic, Shadadi said. Russian state media reported that the members of the band were not harmed in the incident.

The attack was condemned by the international community, including Iraq.

The security forces are taking all measures and a crisis center has been formed, according to the state-run TASS.

The US embassy in Moscow said it was “shocked” by the incident and Ukraine has said it “has nothing to do” with the attack.
