DORTMUND, Germany - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Friday that many citizens have yet to decide ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections.

"I am confident that the ballot boxes will show very different decisions than what is currently predicted in most polls. Many citizens are undecided, much more so than in any previous Bundestag election. There are reasons for this. These times aren't easy. But in the end, a clear direction must be chosen. My advice is that both votes should go to the SPD," he told Rudaw at a campaign, referring to his the Social Democratic Party (SPD).

Germans will go to polls on Sunday.

Scholz emphasized the need for unity in Germany, highlighting the significant number of residents with a migration background.

"From my perspective, I'm completely certain that we in Germany must be a united country. Unity means that, for example, the one-third of our residents who have a migration background - because their grandparents, parents, or they themselves came from another country - should have opportunities to participate in this country," he said.

"For instance, with the new citizenship law that we've established, they all belong to us. They work here, pay taxes and social security. They should be able to participate in decision-making as well. This is something we have fought for," added Scholz.
