ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A Kurdish father from Duhok said he plans to sue German police and judiciary who he blamed for failing to protect his son who was recently stabbed to death.

Dara Dildar, 15, was stabbed nine times on Sunday on the outskirts of Cologne. His body was brought back to the Kurdistan Region and buried in Duhok on Thursday.

Dildar Mohammed, Dara’s father, recounted to Rudaw’s Haidar Doski what happened. He said his son was walking with one of his friends when the friend handed him a plastic bag and asked him to drop it off at an address. Police detained Dara on his way to the place, because the bag contained materials that were prohibited in Germany.

Following an investigation, Dara was released from custody because he had not known what the contents were, but he was questioned by police “about the people who gave him the bag and to reveal their whereabouts and identities,” said his father, who believes this investigation made his son a target.

“According to international standards, a witness must be protected, but my son was not protected and the gang was allowed to execute their plan and end Dara’s life,” Mohammed said.

Three people involved in the killing of Dara have been arrested and warrants have been issued for another six.

Mohammed said that he will return to Germany where he will file complaints against the police and judiciary.
