With the presence of a heavy police force, work began on Monday to clear a migrant camp outside Calais.

The Riot police fired tear gas to push back migrants in Calais camp in France.

The presence came after the French government won a legal battle to dismantle part of the camp.

The migrants set fire to tents and threw stones as bulldozers and demolition teams moved into the camp on Monday.

The clashes came as officials attempted to remove migrants from their shacks after a judge upheld a decision to evict them from the southern part of the squalid camp.

Shacks burn during the dismantling of the southern part of the 'Jungle' camp.

Around 150 to 200 migrants and activists threw stones at police, who later deployed a water cannon.
