DIYARBAKIR, Turkey - Following a heavy snowfall, a ski resort on Diyarbakir (Amed) province's Mount Karaca is buzzing. People around Turkey visit the site.

Around 40,000 people visited the resort in the last ten days, according to official figures obtained by Rudaw.

Many tourists perform the traditional Kurdish dance.

"It does not usually snow in our city, Riha [Sanliurfa]. We have not seen snow in 3 to 4 years," Bunyamin Kaya, a tourist, told Rudaw.

Hashim Eskimish is another tourist.

"This year, there was not any snow until the end of February but it finally fell and we were very happy," he said.

Orhan Atilla is the owner of the resort.

"The snow really brings joy and I do not think it will melt soon. It will probably last for about 20 more days. Our hotel is also ready and will start operating this year. Once the hotel is complete, we will add a ski lift here. We are expanding the slope by 300 meters, and it is going to be a fantastic addition," he told Rudaw.
