ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Two traffic accidents in the Kurdish province of Gaziantep (Dilok) in southeast Turkey on Saturday killed 16 people, including firefighters, health workers and journalists. Over 20 people were also injured in the incidents, according to state media.
While the firefighters and medical teams were responding to a car accident on a highway which connects Gaziantep to Adana and Tarsus early Saturday, a large passenger bus which was moving fast overturned and hit the rescue team and others around them, reported Anadolu Agency.
Governor of Gaziantep Davut Gul said in a tweet later in the day that 15 people died, including three firefighters, two health workers and two journalists who were covering the initial incident. The governor added that 22 others were injured.
Anadolu Agency later reported that the death toll rose to 16.
Gul also said that they have launched an investigation into the incident.
