HAKKARI, Turkey - The fifth snow festival was held in the Kurdish province of Hakkari (Colemerg) in southeastern Turkey on Friday amid increasing efforts by authorities to attract tourists to the region.

The governor of Hakkari said that they are increasing efforts to attract tourists to visit Hakkari.

“Our hope and desire is to spread the beauty and the cleanliness of this city, and for tourism, this is a significant task to do,” Hakkari Governor Ali Celik told Rudaw's Shawkat Harki.

“I ask everyone from everywhere to come to Hakkari to see this purity, peace, tranquility, and beauty,” Celik added.

About 1,500 people from Hakkari and elsewhere participated in this year's festival.

The festival included a performance by the Hakkari municipality arts group, along with several other sports and artistic activities.

“Colemerg is a special place, it is a historically advanced location in many ways,” said Ismet Coleyi, a vocalist.

“It is a very nice place and we thank our governor and the municipality for organizing this festival, we want all people from Iraq, Iran, and everywhere around the world to come to Hakkari,” said artist Mahmood Duman.

Most of the people of Hakkari and the surrounding areas attended the festival in Kurdish clothes.

The snow festival of Hakkari province was held for the first time in 2017. In 2019 and 2020, it was canceled due to the coronavirus.
