ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Suspected Turkish drone strikes targeted at least two cars in northeast Syria’s (Rojava) Hasaka province, a war monitor reported on Wednesday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (UK), a UK-based war monitor reported that Turkish drones struck two cars in Hasaka’s town of Derik, one of the cars belonged to the town’s local council, and the other to Rojava’s Internal Security Forces (Asayish).

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which effectively controls the town, has not commented on the strikes yet.

Hawar News Agency (ANHA), an outlet affiliated with the Rojava authorities, reported that the drone struck four cars in the district, leaving an unspecified number of people injured.

The Turkish defense ministry is yet to comment on the strike. The ministry usually announces its strikes targeting Kurdish forces in Syria and the Kurdistan Region.

Turkey has carried out several air and ground operations against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Kurdistan Region and the People’s Protection Units (YPG) in Rojava, which comprises of the backbone of the US-backed SDF but Turkey alleges is the Syrian front for the PKK.

According to SOHR data, the Turkish army has conducted 65 drone strikes in Rojava since the beginning of 2024, killing 14 people, and wounding 15 others. One woman and three children are among those wounded.
