ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Four civilians were wounded in the Kurdish-held town of Tal Rifaat in northwest Syria on Sunday following shelling from Turkish-held areas, reported local media and a war monitor.

Media outlets close to the Kurdish authorities reported that Turkish artillery shelled Tal Rifaat late Sunday, injuring four people, aged between 10 to 25. They were transferred to a nearby hospital.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said the attack was carried out by the Turkey-based militants, adding that no casualties had been reported.

Tal Rifaat is located within a small region of Afrin that is still under control of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG). Hundreds of thousands of Kurds who fled Turkey’s 2018 military offensive in Afrin are still living in camps in Tal Rifaat.

In recent years, Turkey has threatened to carry out an offensive to remove Kurdish fighters from the enclave. Ankara accuses the YPG of using the location to attack its forces.

The town often comes under Turkish airstrikes.
