ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani on Tuesday met King Charles III as part of an official trip to London, discussing a host of topics including bilateral ties and economic prospects.

“The meeting reviewed bilateral cooperation between Iraq and the United Kingdom and explored opportunities for establishing productive partnerships in various economic and developmental fields. Discussions also touched on collaboration in addressing climate change challenges and opportunities for enhancing cultural cooperation,” said a statement from Sudani’s office.

During the meeting, Sudani expressed his appreciation for the invitation and voiced his commitment to advancing ties between the two countries.

Sudani is leading an Iraqi delegation to the UK on an official invitation from his British counterpart Keir Starmer, with Baghdad and London enjoying good ties.

The delegation includes ministers, members of parliament, the governor of Basra, advisors, representatives from the private sector, and business leaders from various industries.

In late December, an unprecedented security agreement was signed between Iraq and the UK to enhance the cooperation over Iraq and the Kurdistan Region’s border security to curb people smuggling and narcotics trade.

Iraq and the UK share strong relations. The two countries signed a Strategic Partnership in 2021 to increase cooperation in the economy, education, military and security, and other sectors.
