Christians in the Kurdistan Region’s capital of Erbil celebrated Christmas with joy and prayer, gathering at church to mark the holy occasion.

Some of Erbil’s Christians gathered for Christmas Eve in the Mar Toma Church (Saint Thomas Chaldean Catholic Church.)

This marks the third Christmas at the Mar Toma Church, which was established in 2022.

Syrian Christians living in Erbil also attended the service and joined the locals.

“Today I am here to pray for Kurdistan and my own country,” Hala Hababa, a Syrian citizen who has been living in Erbil for two years, told Rudaw.

In Erbil, Christmas traditions include preparing festive meals and exchanging gifts with loved ones on Christmas Eve.
