The 1st Duhok marathon was held in Duhok today. More than 400 competitors, including Syrian refugees, participated.

The main competition was in the group of people between 16 to 40 years old.

While international marathons are more than 40km, Duhok’s first was a mini-marathon of 2.5km.

As the Kurdistan Region Government is facing a severe financial crisis and cannot afford to put on events like the Dohuk marathon, non-governmental organizations (NGO) have taken on the responsibility to hold them.
