ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A shooting on Thursday at the Kurdsat police station in Sulaimani left two police officers and another person wounded, police in the city reported.

“One of the wounded is a police officer, the other a normal police [person], and the third person is a civilian,” Sarkawt Ahmed, spokesperson for Sulaimani police said during a press conference, adding that all three are in stable condition.

The shooting occurred after one party came to the police station to file a complaint, Ahmed revealed, then the complainee opened fire, injuring people at the station.

“The shooters have been arrested with the help of Sulaimani Asayish [security forces],” Ahmed added, noting that an investigation has been launched without elaborating who was wounded or how many people fired shots.

A Sulaimani police source, speaking to Rudaw on the condition of anonymity, attributed the incident to social problems.

The shooters arrived at the station in a white Nissan patrol vehicle around noon and fired multiple times, according to Rudaw’s Peshawa Bakhtyar reporting at the scene.

Despite the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) efforts to regulate and reduce violent incidents, shootings remain problematic in the Region.
