ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - An unidentified aircraft bombed several locations near Ranya town on Friday, sparking a wildfire. Media affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) blamed Turkey.
The unidentified aircraft hit several locations in Ranya’s Sarkapkan subdistrict, north of Dukan Lake.
Hemin Abdullah, the mayor of Sarkapkan, told Rudaw that there were no casualties.
“A fighter jet came and hovered over the area for nearly 15 minutes and hit the area twice,” a resident of Sarkapkan told Rudaw.
Rojnews, a media outlet affiliated with the PKK, reported that the airstrike was carried out by Turkey and that the attack sparked fire nearby several villages.
The Turkish government did not immediately comment on the airstrike but its defense ministry said their air forces hit PKK fighters on Mount Metina in Duhok province.

Turkey has recently increased its military intervention to curb threats from the PKK along its border with the Kurdistan Region. The airstrikes and artillery fire frequently spark fires, especially during the hot, dry summer.
Ankara has also intensified its targeting of Kurdish fighters in northern Syria due to their alleged ties with the PKK.
