Little can protect refugees at the Khazir camp from the glaring sun and scorching heat.
Their electricity supply is too little and unreliable for running air conditioners if they can afford to have any.
So, ice comes on trucks and in big cubes. The refugees buy one cube for 2,000 Iraqi dinars to make cold drinking water and to keep food and drinks cool in their hot tents and cabins.
Some small-scale local salesmen bring in tons of ice from a nearby factory everyday and sell it to the refugees.
