ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Turkish aerial forces on Friday bombed Mount Metina in Duhok province, causing a fire in the vicinity of four villages, a local told Rudaw.

Turkey heavily bombed Mount Metina during fresh clashes with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), Fayaq Balavayi, a resident of Balav village, in Duhok province’s Amedi area told Rudaw.

“Last night and the night before, the PKK guerillas attacked a Turkish military post in Sora Sagere. The sound of the clashes could be heard from Balav, Sgere, Barche and Sargale villages,” Balavayi said.

The PKK said it attacked Turkish forces on Mount Metina and in Avashin, killing 11 soldiers and injuring two others.

Turkey’s defense minister said in a post on X that their forces killed two PKK fighters in Duhok province during airstrikes.

Turkey has recently increased its military intervention to curb threats from the PKK along its border with the Kurdistan Region.
