ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The UAE-based Dana Gas, which operates the crucial Khor Mor gas field in Sulaimani province, said on Monday that it is in contact with the local authorities to ensure the operations continue safely following a drone attack on the field.
The gas field came under a drone attack on Sunday but the strike did not cause material damage or casualties. The Kurdish security forces blamed Iraqi militia groups for the strike.
“Production operations continued as normal under the comprehensive security measures in place to ensure the safety of all personnel and assets. We remain in close coordination with all relevant authorities and security forces, who are monitoring the situation closely, to ensure continuing safe operations,” Dana Gas said in a statement on Monday.
“Dana Gas, Pearl Petroleum and the partners remain committed to the safe and reliable operation of the Khor Mor gas facility safeguarding the interest of its stakeholders and the people of KRI [Kurdistan Region in Iraq] and all of Iraq,” it added.
The field was frequently attacked by Katyusha rockets and suicide drones in recent years and the Kurdish authorities blamed Iran-backed militia groups.
Khor Mor field produces 452 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, according to Dana Gas. The gas is a key fuel source for electricity generation plants in the Kurdistan Region.
