Elevator falls 11 storeys, injuring five in Duhok

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Five people were injured on Saturday when the elevator they were in fell 11 storeys in Duhok.

"The incident occurred in a residential project in Etite neighborhood. The injured were two women and three children," Lawen Sawri, director of Duhok’s emergency hospital, told Rudaw.

Sawri added that the injuries were not severe and none of them needed surgery.

The people in the elevator were a family from Nineveh province.

Preliminary information indicates the accident may have been caused by the number of people in the elevator exceeding the maximum weight limit, according to information obtained by Rudaw’s Naif Ramazan.
