Western countries waging ‘hybrid war’ against Russia: Lavrov
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday claimed that the Western countries have launched a “hybrid war” against his country in Ukraine.
As Russia is preparing itself for the first anniversary of its war against Ukraine, Lavrov invited foreign reporters in Moscow on Wednesday, including Rudaw’s Kamiz Shadadi, telling them that the Western countries continue arming and training Ukrainian forces.
“The European countries are collectively waging a hybrid war against Russia. This war is getting deeper every day in all fields, from economic and financial aspects to cultural and social ones,” he told journalists off the record.
He also slammed Europe for banning some Russian media outlets.
This is not the first time Russia accuses Western countries of waging such a war against Moscow.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has claimed that he wants to "demilitarise" and "denazify" Ukraine.
Lavrov on Wednesday told journalists that Europe does not understand the threat Nazism poses in Ukraine, claiming that many Russians in Ukraine are not allowed to speak in their mother tongue.
Western countries have branded these claims as a cover for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February last year, leading to a global incline in food, oil, and petrol prices as exports from the neighboring countries diminished due to the war, in addition to worldwide distress over the prospect of nuclear escalation.
The invasion and the possibility of nuclear or chemical warfare triggered Finland and Sweden to submit their bids to join NATO.
