Turkish armored vehicle slams into home killing two sleeping brothers in Silopi, report
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — In the Turkish town of Silopi, close to the borders of Iraq and Syria, a police armored vehicle killed two brothers after slamming through the home's wall, according to Turkish media.
The incident happened just before midnight on Wednesday, according to Hurriyet Daily News. The prosecutor's office has launched an investigation and the reason is not yet determined.
The incident crushed to death two brothers Mohammed, 7, and Furkan, 6, according to Hurriyet, which added that the bodies had been taken to the local morgue and since buried.
The Kurdish town of Silopi is located in Sirnak province.
In January, the governor of Sirnak Ali Ihsan said operations against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) “had been successful and public order had been restored in Silopi," according to Anadolu Agency.
Ankara imposed a curfew on the Kurdish town in December 2016 as it launched a large military crackdown against the PKK, which restarted its guerrilla war against the Turkish government last July, ending a two-year old peace process.
