Dead body of Peshmerga commander found in Erbil

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A Peshmerga commander was found dead near his house in Erbil on Friday. Police said he committed suicide.

Maj. Gen. Muhsin Mohammed’s body was found near his house on Erbil’s 150 Meter Road on Friday.

Forensics reports indicate that “he committed suicide using a Kalashnikov (AK-47) gun,” the police said in a statement, adding that he was alone in his car when the incident took place.

The Ministry of Peshmerga said the late major general was the former head of its health affairs office.

Mohammed “provided a great military health service to the Peshmerga forces, particularly during the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS),” added the ministry.

He was the spouse of Viyan Sabri, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) bloc, in the Iraqi parliament.

A family member of the commander told Rudaw, on the condition of anonymity, prior to the police statement that they did not know how the incident occurred.
