India says education ties with Kurdistan Region ‘strengthening’
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The Indian consul general to Erbil on Monday praised his country’s “strengthening” cooperation with the Kurdistan Region and highlighted available scholarship opportunities for the Region’s students.
“The relationship between India and the Kurdistan Region in the field of education is strengthening. We have been providing scholarships to the students. Every year, there are many scholarships for the undergraduate, graduate, as well as master's, or PhD level,” Indian Consul General to Erbil Madan Gopal told Rudaw's Horvan Rafaat.
The Indian Consulate General was celebrating India's 76th Republic Day in Erbil, and representatives from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) were in attendance.

Gopal touched on the available Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) scholarship for the Kurdistan Region’s students in India annually.
The consulate also planted 76 trees to commemorate the country's 76th Republic Day.
”I am very happy to connect with this event of plantation drive on our happy occasion of the 76th Republic Day of India. We planted 76 plants today and engaged with students. We are happy that we are doing something which is good for the environment, good for society, and good for all human beings,” Gopal said.
Thousands of Indians live in the Kurdistan Region and work in various sectors. The country has a consulate in Erbil.
