Peshmerga commander killed in Akre
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A shooting incident in Akre district, Duhok province led to the death of a Peshmerga commander and the injury of a number of other people on Thursday. A suspect has been arrested.
The Peshmerga Ministry said in a statement late Thursday that Colonel Sabr Juma, who worked at the ministry’s training section, “was shot dead by an unidentified person. His wife and children were also injured.”
Shaaban Barwari, Akre’s acting mayor, told Rudaw’s Naif Ramazan that the colonel’s daughter and wife and her sister were injured in the shooting which took place in front of the 43-year-old commander’s house.
Sabah Zuhair, head of Akre health directorate’s media department, said the commander's daughter was seriously injured.
Barwari later told Rudaw that the suspected murderer was arrested by the security forces, adding that he is a 42-year-old man.
An investigation has been into the incident, said the mayor.
