Rudaw launches anti-tobacco campaign

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The anti-tobacco campaign was recently launched for the fourth year by Rudaw. This year a car will be given to the main winner.

The campaign consists of checkups from respiratory specialists at PAR Hospital in Erbil. The first checkup is one month after registration, and the second and third are three months apart.

After seven months of medical assessments, those who show signs of quitting tobacco products will be added to a raffle. One name will be chosen at random and gifted a Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, worth about $30,000.

Contestants can register through this form and by calling 07513233353 or 07713233353.

Easy access to cigarettes and e-cigarettes in Kurdistan Region and inadequate control mechanisms are increasing tobacco use among young people.

Young people between the ages of 15 and 17 were observed smoking while sitting in a small park. One of these young people explained, "I learned it from my friend," when speaking with Rudaw.

“About 30 out of 48 people in my class smoke cigarettes or e-cigarettes,” a student told Rudaw

As a result of a campaign by the Rudaw Media Network in 2023, e-cigarette sales were banned. However, despite this ban, it was found that the products were sold if not secretly, openly on the market.
