Cannes: 'Girls of the Sun' spotlights women, Peshmerga in ISIS war

This year a film titled 'Girls of the Sun' (Les filles du soleil) is premiering and competing for the coveted Palme d'Or.
Girls of the Sun is based on women in Kurdistan during the ISIS conflict.
Behi Djanati Atai plays the role of Vian Dakhil, an Iraqi Yezidi MP who helped to shine the light on the atrocities committed by the ISIS extremists.
"More than 7,000 women and children have been taken captive. Half of them are still captive. How can we ever be at peace with that? As long as even one individual remains captive, I won't give up," Atai told Rudaw.
Zirak, a Peshmerga from the Kurdistan Region, plays the role of a commander.
"Frankly playing a Peshmerga in the studio reminded me of the days of being a real Peshmerga. I saw that there is a great difference," he said.
The Girls of the Sun is directed by the French female director Eva Husson. The movie was produced in Georgia.
