Brendan Fraser describes The Whale filming experience
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Oscar winner Brendan Fraser on Tuesday reflected to Rudaw his experience in being the lead of the award-winning film The Whale, showing gratitude for being in the film industry.
“To make a film like The Whale, it was as if we had to approach each day as if it is the first and last time we ever would,” Fraser told Rudaw's Payam Sarbast at the Red Sea Film Festival in the Saudi Arabian port city of Jeddah.
“I hope I never lose sight of what a privilege it is to be in this line of work,” he stressed.
Fraser attributed the success of The Whale, which won both him and the movie multiple awards including an Oscar, to the spirit of teamwork and caring for one another during the filming process. He said that the care put into the movie “really shows through in the quality.”
“There are so many choices in the content of the films and the series we have. What is important is to pick the ones that people really want to see,” he said, and talked about his upcoming projects – Rental Family and Pressure.
English actor Andrew Garfield also participated in the Red Sea Film Festival and attended the screening of his upcoming film, We Live In Time, which tells the story of a couple over the course of a decade.
Garfield talked about the importance of love and family to Rudaw.
“I think family can come in many forms. Family can be blood family, can be chosen family. Family is a feeling to me. It doesn't have to be rigorously adhered to in terms of a - You know, there are plenty of people who are born and are orphaned. And we all need to provide and find family for ourselves and for others,” Garfield said.
According to the two-time Academy Award nominee for best actor, any movie that highlights the importance of family is a “worthy” film.
“I feel like any film that underlines and highlights that is a worthy film,” he said.
Gael Balian, the runner up for the 2024 Miss Lebanon, commended Saudi’s efforts in the cinema industry.
“I feel like it is very important that Saudi is putting effort in the cinema industry, because it is one of the industries that is booming at the moment. and everybody is really invested in it. So I am really happy,” Balian said.
Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor expressed gratitude for his fans in the Kurdistan Region who support his art.
“Thank you for all the love and support, and it is very heart warming, and I hope I am going to meet you guys, and I hope that I can reciprocate the love through the work I do,” Kapoor said.
Kapoor is screening his movie Love and War, at the Red Sea film festival, which he stars in with his wife, Alia Bhatt.
